GINGERBREAD HOUSE

Early in December, Nana gave the Scharpf kids and the Scriv kids kits to make a Gingerbread House for Christmas. The plan was that when they had their house complete, I would come visit them and take photos of their work. This is the handiwork of Elijah, Lily and Rosie. They brought their house to the Christmas Eve festivities and invited the other children to eat it up. I'm still waiting for Devin and Hailey to create their master piece so that I can go photograph their creation and visit their home.

Christmas Eve after "Christmas With Family"

Decorating was minimal this year.  (I believe that this post really belonged in the 'adult' blogspot.  Might I say I probably got confused.)  http://nana-splace.blogspot.com/

Sleepovers

Nana and Papa did not work the Christmas Train this year.  Our contribution was to watch the grandkids while Dave and April volunteered to work Christmas Train -- April 3 times and Dave twice.  The first evening, we went to the train as well, the other two nights, we stayed home nice and cozy and warm.

Kayla Is Now A Teenager

Kayla is the second of all our grandchildren to reach the state of teenager.   God help those Mommies and Daddies with great wisdom during these growing years of independence and steps toward maturity.
What a cool party at the Purple Glaze where everyone painted a figurine of their choice.
Two boys were invited, brother Devin and cousin Elijah.
I was working so was not able to attend, but Papa took photos for me and April helped with the art work a little bit.
Devin is the first to become a teenager.  For a few weeks both Devin and Kayla will be 13 years old.
Mom and Dad help with the party.
Kayla being a fan of Sonic X had a cake to fit the occassion.
And then there were presents to thrill a Sonic Fan birthday girl.
Happy Birthday Kayla.  You are growing into a lovely young lady ..... or is that a Sonic Girl?

Hailey's Part in the Christmas Program

Last year Hailey had a part in the Christmas program and missed it because the family all went to Branson.  She promised her teacher she would not do that this year and so we went to Hailey's Christmas Program on Sunday morning.  Kayla was there with her mother and her friend.
Of course the tiny little ones went first.  They acted out the manger scene.
Then the older children did a program on Children around the world.  Hailey was so beautiful and had grown so much that Susie could not recognize her.  In this picture, she is the tallest one on the second row.
And  here are her syblings watching her do her job.
These kids had great, strong voices.  Their music was beautiful.
Afterwards, we took some group shots.  Of course Hailey had to try for horns on her brother.

Thanksgiving at Devin and Hailey's House: fire, s'mores, scary stories!

We had an early Thanksgiving Meal together at Nana and Pop's home on Sunday and Devin and Hailey parents had other plans on Thanksgiving day, so we did not see them on Thursday.  But here are photos sent to me of their celebration in their back yard.   First of all this is Mr Harvest Man at the front door.  You will have to ask them who made the man and what all is stuffed in him.

Then there was a big bonfire in the back yard.
Here is Buddy enjoying the celebration with Hailey and Devin.

S'mores being roasted.

Kevin just sent me this information:  "In the old days, pagans celebrated the end of the year with bonfires. We had more practical reasons: a year's worth of giant fallen tree trunks and branches to get rid of. So we roasted marshmallows, made s'mores, and told scary stories by firelight. Even the dogs got involved, but the cat decided to stay in the garage."
