Hailey Grace Has A Big Secret

Devin and Hailey dropped by for a visit on Sunday afternoon.   Hailey is feeling much better as you can see her eyes are much more shiny today.  Papa was telling Hailey how much he loved her and that she was valuable and precious.  She said "yes, I cost."

Hailey whispered a question into Papa's ears which she said was a big secret.   She would not tell us her secret so I wonder if you can guess it for me.  Hailey says the clues are:  it is about a five and a zero and the letter it starts with is "D".
OK cousins, can you guess Hailey's secret?

Papa was showing Devin and Hailey his new script writting tool.  A smaller notebook like a laptop which he took to Haiti with him.  He uses it for writing story scripts on it.

Devin and Hailey posed for me on the floor.  Do you think they are cute.    Don't you love Hailey's outfit?  Kayla, her big sister gave it to her.  Kayla is 11 years old and Hailey is 9 years old.  But Hailey is trying to catch up with Kayla in size.   Better slow down Hailey so that you can get those beautiful clothes that big sis has to hand down.

We have a winner

The deadline for Papa's Riddle was yesterday, so time to announce the winner.  Devin guessed Bookshelf and that was wrong.   Then Hailey guessed a roof and that was kind of correct.  Then Lily and Elijah both guessed it was looking up at the upper deck and that was correct.  Rosie's Mom said rosie guessed the same but she did not submit her guess.   Hummmmm...............
Papa was under our back patio looking up at the deck and the light was shining through the cracks.
Papa said maybe we need to divide the $10 prize among all the winners .... I think he was teasing.   I'll let you know.
The winners are all going to the Disney on Ice next Thursday evening.  Would it be OK to pass out the prize money about that time?   Let me know and I'll pass the word on to Papa.

Who Does God Have His Eye on?

God promises that HE will keep His eyes on his children and that He will hide us under the coolness of HIS wings. The Bible calls it "Keeping us as the Apple of HIS eye."

Can you tell who is the apple of God's eye in these two pictures? Of course God has HIS eyes on all of you.

Over the years all the grandkids have played with my puppy. I think Sydney and Ava and maybe Rosie have given him names but I don't remember what his name is. Please name my puppy. He may be going to Europe with Pops and Me.

Archie the Armadillo

One day Archie the armadillo was sleeping in his burrow, when his friend, Pokey the porcupine came in and said, "hey Archie, the grubs are back!" Archie shot up immediately, and said,
"wha-id-you-say?!?!" "Its the great grub migration over on the other side of the forest!" Oh no, he said, I gotta get ready! Once he was ready, he climbed out of his hole and started on his biggest adventure yet. He started walking away, then he looked back and said, "goodbye" to his little hole, then he turned back around and started walking again.

They walked for about two-and-a-half hours when they got to the deep dark scary part of the forest. "I don't like it here.....not one bit," said Pokey. "Nether do I," said Archie. Just then they heard growling in the bushes, they screamed and ran until they tripped over a big rock, "ouch," they said. Then they looked up and right in front of them they saw a swamp. It was a big scary swamp with old dead trees in it. "How are we going to get across?," said Pokey. I can swim, and you can crawl across that old log.," said Archie.
Then Archie puffed up with air and jumped into the water and floated across. "Your turn," he said. Pokey climbed on and went from tree to tree, just then the tree broke in half! He jumped just in time and made it! Then they started walking again.

They were both tired and hungry, but then they saw a light so they ran to it. When they got to the light they were in the middle of a road! They looked up and saw a truck coming right for them! Pokey ran to the other side of the road, but Archie just sat starring at the truck! Run!, Pokey said run!, The truck went over Archie,"oh no," said Pokey, but he had ducked just in time. Once the truck was gone Archie ran to the other side.

In the morning they reached the place where the grubs were supposed to be. They looked around and then they found them, thousands of grubs everywhere!
Then they ate and ate until they could not eat any more then they went to sleep.

The Hungry Armadillo

Deep in the rainforest of Brazil lived three neighbors.
A parakeet named Pete, an anteater named Emily, and an armadillo named Arthur. Of course there were many other animals but these three were close friends.
Pete was a shy bird that only spoke when spoken to. He always sang beautifully. Emily was a Pygmy anteater with a voice much greater than her size. Arthur was very friendly with a high squeaky voice. They loved to get together at dusk and sing for a long long time.
One morning Arthur woke up and noticed that his stomach was growling loudly. He crawled out of his burrow and began to search for termites. They were his favorite breakfast. While he was searching he ran into Emily. She had been looking for him to tell him of a tremendous termite mound by the brook.
She and Pete had been there for half an hour and wondered if he would like to join them. He was so hungry that he couldn't answer. With a blink of an eye he dashed to the brook and spied the tremendous termite mound. Pete was perched on a log by the mound. Arthur's long tongue shot down the dark hole in the mound and returned with hundreds of twisting termites stuck to it which he quickly swallowed. After several more mouthfuls he was satisfied.
Pete flew off to visit his tree frog friend, Francis. Francis was extremely shy. She barely ever came out of her bromeliad. Her only friend was Pete because she loved his singing and couldn't resist meeting him. They had been friends ever since.
In the mean time, Arthur and Emily had been resting by the brook. Arthur decided he had room for a few more mouthfuls. He stuck his long tongue in the mound. But when he tried to pull it out, it wouldn't budge.

With his tongue still stuck in the hole he cried out for help in his high squeaky voice. Emily carefully moved her tongue around in the hole to see what the trouble was. "It's tied in a knot!", she declared. "How are we going to get it out?" "Go get Pete.", said Arthur. "He'll know what to do."
Emily dashed over to the bromeliad and found Pete sitting with Francis. Francis hopped back into her hiding place. Emily explained the trouble. Pete was smart and quickly came up with a solution. "We need to get that tongue untied!" he proclaimed. " But we are too big to fit down that hole.", said Emily. "I'm not, I can help.", croaked Francis, from the flower. She hopped on Pete's back and he took her to the mound. She bravely hopped down the hole and carefully untied the knotted tongue. Arthur was so thankful he invited Francis to be apart of their evening chorus. She agreed, and the four became close friends.
And now, deep in the rainforest of Brazil, if you listen carefully, you can hear the quartet singing their beautiful friendship chorus.

What Do You Know About Eyes?

There is so much to learn. Let's think about our eyes for a few minutes. Our eyes are the 'looking glass' that shows who we are inside -- how we feel -- if we are telling the truth, if we really believe what we are saying....
Our eyes are so important. I would never want to loose my eyes. Here are your eyes ... well, I did add a few of your pets in the mix. Can you identify who is who?
Oh no! I thought I put all nine of you in the picture but there are only eight humans. I will add the other one separately. Tell me who I missed. Let's see how many you get right. http://kidshealth.org/kid/htbw/eyes.html

We Have A Winner for the Panda Riddle/Story

Out of 9 of you, we had 4 entries in our Game/Riddle Story. Papa and I both loved your stories. They are all great. All of you got the picture right, it is a Panda hanging from a branch. I wondered if you would know Panda's are mostly from China. Elijah knew that their main food is bamboo. Did you know that they also eat meat but are too lazy to hunt for their prey. Maybe that is why there are only 1600 left in the entire world. It was funny that MO also eats vines and pansies.
Lily and Rosie had their Panda Pete and Panda Padame in the zoo because that is the only place we would ever see them here in the USA. I wonder how Rosie found her Padame in Iowa.
I loved Lily's rescue plan for Pete ... I bet Pete did not want to go back to the zoo.
How funny that Elijah's Pete Panda needed 5 monkey fire fighters to get him down and it took 8 hours. WOW!
Although she is the youngest entry, Sydney used her vivid imigination to write an interesting story that took little MO the Panda from that tree top, to North Carolina, and then all the way to Hawaii.
All of your stories were wonderful and well written.
Our anonymous judge says 1st place will go to Sydney while the other three run a close 2nd. All four of you will receive a reward for your job well done! Keep your imaginations working. There will be more riddles to come and hopefully all nine of your will participate in the future.

Sydney's Story for the Riddle Game

Panda MO jumped up there because he wanted to climb to his mommy in the jungle. There were lots of vines and food. There were pansies there too, pandas like to chew on them. He saw his daddy there. His papa was in North Carolina and grandma too. He had is own bed there, so he swung over to it in the middle of the night. His mommy and daddy could not find him in the morning, so they ate blueberries and then flew to North Carolina. And they saw baby panda walking with grandma and grandpa with blueberries in his hand and he saved two for his mommy and daddy. Then they all went to Hawaii. THE END.

Elijah's Entry to the Panda Riddle

After a long day of picking and eating
bamboo leaves, PETER, the Panda
decided to take a nap.
When he woke up he found
that he had rolled of
his bamboo bed and on to
a old branch and got
stuck there.
It took 8 hours and
5 monkey fire fighters
to get him down.
After they got him down
Peter Panda said he would get
a new bed, this time on the ground.
I hope you like my story from Elijah. Age almost 11
